Hi bearhead,

The easy answer is avast! updates as often as needed.  Sometimes that means a day or two between updates, sometimes twice per day.  It all depends on the amount of new malware needing to be dealt with.

There is no set number per week, they are released as required, it averages out around 3-4 per week and often more. I have seen as many as 4 in a day, each time you connect to the internet avast will check to see if any VPS updates are available and every 4 hours if you remain connected.

Program updates, that is different, once a program update is released it will be available and everyone should get it within 7 days as the load is spread so as not to overload the servers.
