So Avast installs on Vista Beta 2 but...
« on: June 18, 2006, 08:30:21 PM »
...doesn't allow signature updates?   Tell me again why the Avast developers decided this was a solution worth a front page story?

That is not the case there a number of forum members using avast with vista beta 2 and no reports of this problem.

What errors or warnings are you getting ?
What firewall are you using ?
Does it allow avast.setup internet access (if not no updates) ?
Windows 10 Home 64bit/ Acer Aspire F15/ Intel Core i5 7200U 2.5GHz, 8GB DDR4 memory, 256GB SSD, 1TB HDD/ avast! free  24.8.6127 (build 24.8.9372.862) UI 1.0.814/ Firefox, uBlock Origin, uMatrix/ MailWasher Pro/ Avast! Mobile Security

Signature and program updates are not *yet* prepared to work manually with Vista.
They will be updated automatically without trouble.
Solution right now is to 'wait' the development  8)

I think the manual update could be effected by the UAC (User Access Control) feature of Vista, but as you say the auto update should work.

Ahh, it is the case.  At least in my case.  I click the update button and the avast message tells "me that feature is not yet available."  But you say it's best I wait for it to update itself correct?

This may be to avoid the UAC function until it is finalised and avast can workout what has to be done.

Yes, provided you have the avast Program Settings, Update (Basic), set to Automatic, the VPS updates will regularly check (every 4 hours) to see if there any updates available and install if there are.

Oh yeah... almost forgot... avast! works as a charm with Vista, but the only problem I could find was you are unable to update program and virus definitions by accessing those options from system tray. You get a note from avast! that these functions are not supported yet. But you can update everything through GUI without any problems.

Manual update through the system tray options is not possible at the moment. Remember, Vista is still under heavy development, so do not expect that everything will work perfect. Once Vista goes gold, all these things will be addressed and fixed.

For now, you can still manually update avast! (not through system tray icon), at least I can do that without any troubles. Just open your avast! program, and invoke manual update through the GUI (skin)... option is called iAvs. When you do that, avast! doesn't report any messages/errors.
