How to remove popup adware from mac
« on: March 20, 2018, 12:42:50 PM »
My colleagues computer has a very irritating piece of adware / pup which when ever you open a new tab in Chrome or Safari (they dont use any other browsers) the adware will open a second tab for Mac keeper or some other piece of spam software.

Ive checked in Chrome > Extensions and in Safari > Extensions, but couldnt see anything obvious that had been installed. Is there anywhere else i should look ?

Ive just installed Avast for Mac on their computer and set it to run a full scan, but wondered if the scan would pickup what ever is causing these issues.

I noticed that they had a programme called "Clean my Mac 3" which is made by Macpaw is this legitimate software or spamware link Mackeeper ?

They are running OSX 10.11 on a macbook pro.

Hello!

While avast does detect some PUP/Adware applications, I would recommend running Malwarebytes for Mac. It has a better record at times with these kinds of applications
