Avast reinstalls over and over every two or three days
« on: June 17, 2018, 10:50:47 AM »

Ever since my Avast Program updated over a month ago to version 18.4.2338 (build 18.4.3895.327), Release date 05-10-2018 5:54:23 AM it started updating and reinstalling itself with the same exact program version EVERY TWO OR THREE DAYS.  The following Avast processes start running everytime it does a program update: overseer.exe, SetupInf.exe, RegSvr.exe and aswRunDll.exe  It also removes and then adds back the chrome browser extension every time and I also have to delete the new "Avast Free Antivirus" shortcut off the desktop every single time it gets finished updating. I set PROGRAM Settings to Manual Update days ago hoping to stop it from program updating: this did no good at all as it continues to update and reinstall the same program version over and over again and over again every two or three days. Then today on 06-17-2018 it program updated two times within an hour and a half of each other this morning.

Repair Avast:
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed

If Repair doesn't fix the problem, try the following:
Clean Install of Avast:

I actually did a clean install back on the last day of last month, two weeks after it started doing it. Did a complete uninstall, made sure the directory was gone and then reinstalled from scratch: kept having the same problem. Yesterday 06-20-2018 it updated to version 18.5.2342 (build 18.5.3931.1.0) Release date 6/20/2018 2:28:20 AM. Maybe there was a glitch in the 18.4.2338 I'll wait three days and see if it does it again.

If you have auto update turned on (default) that that is correct since a new stable version was released yesterday.
I personally auto update the Virus database and streaming updates are on but, I only get notified when there is a program update.
I decide based on the reactions I see posted here in the forum if it's OK (in my opinion) to update.
