Avast closes automatically Windows 10
« on: April 18, 2018, 09:42:15 PM »
Hi, I hope someone can help.

I'm using Avast Internet Security on Windows 10 Pro.

The Avast icon in my start menu disappeared a few days ago. If I try and run Avast, it closes automatically after 1-2 seconds. I can't do anything!

I've followed the instructions to repair, do a clean install (using Uninstaller tool in safe mode, installing in offline mode, etc). I even tried just using Avast antivirus free. I've tried sfc /scannow, I still can't get it working.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm stumped, I can't see another solution other than use another antivirus/firewall tool!!

Hi.

Welcome.

You've removed all prior and original manufacturer antivirus programs?  Leftover remnants can/will interfere with new antivirus programs:  https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/11/#artTitle
-Reboot.

Below is only if needed:
-So your desktop shortcut icon disappeared?
-Try creating a new shortcut icon by navigating to here:
-Local Disk (C:) > Program Files > AVAST Software > Avast > Highlight and right-click -AvastUI.exe.  (64-bit)
-For 32-bit machines, substitute Program Files (x86) for Program Files.
-Move mouse to 'Send to' and select 'Desktop (create shortcut)'.  Click this line to create your desktop shortcut.

See:  https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=211973.0

Finally, is this a trial version of Avast Internet Security?

Windows 10 Home 64-bit 22H2 Avast Premier Security version 24.1.6099 (build 24.1.88821.762)  UI version 1.0.797
 UI version 1.0.788.  Windows 11 Home 23H2 - Windows 11 Pro 23H2 Avast Premier Security version 24.2.6105 (build 24.1.8918.827) UI version 1.0.801

Hi.

My current machine has only ever had Avast on it, and it's always worked fine.

The desktop icon is still there, it just closes automatically when I run it, and the notification icon disappears.

I've seen this problem reported by others but the solution (a clean offline install) didn't work for me.

I am trying a trial version of AIS yes, but Avast Free AV caused the same issues.

Thanks.

I actually have the same problem with Avast Free.
The Notification Icon is shown until i hover the mouse over the icon, then it disappears.
Although Avast still seems to be running:

When i try to open Avast (programm, UI) it's shown for a few seconds and then crashes. (Just disappears alongside with the notification icon)

I tried to re-install avast two times now and it didn't work.
Running Windows 10 version 1709 (10.0.16299) lates updates (at least the windows updater doesn't says so ;))

Any help here? I really don't want to switch to Avira Free again ;)

Thanks! :)

@ yaku.mo,
Looking at the icons in your system tray, it doesn't show Avast but does show a problem
with Windows Defender. What error message(s) are you getting ???

yeah, that what i meant, with the notification icon always disappears and is not shown.

The problem within Windows Defender ist just the diabled "Smart Screen" for Windows Apps within the store. though this reminds me to turn it on xD

Thanks again! :)

Hey bob!

First of all: thanks again for your reply, but as i already stated: This didn't change anything.
But still and just this once i did it a third time (as av. i followed the instructions step by step)

The problem is still there: as soon as i launch avast, the UI is there for around 2-3 seconds and then it crashes alongside with the systemtray icon.

:(

You could try this:

Submitting a support file to Avast
Instructions how to use it can be easily found:

Hi can you let me know if you find a solution? My solution has been to go with BitDefender instead as I couldn't get this working no matter what! Thanks.

To me, it still looks like you haven't totally cleared all of Avast or some other AV off your system.
