Video Downloader Ultimate Flagged as Malware
« on: April 18, 2018, 10:15:00 PM »
Hi!  I have been using Video Downloader Ultimate (VDU, henceforth, for brevity), by Link64 Gmbh...

...not to be confused with Avast's Video Downloader function in the browser--in fact, I actually haven't tried out Avast's browser yet, cuz I didn't know about it...

...for at least two years now.  The last time I used it was probably a couple of weeks ago.

Two days ago, when I started inquiring as to why it hadn't opened on my browser, I discovered that my copy of VDU had been totally uninstalled from my computer.  I had no idea that it had happened, nor do I have any idea when.  I certainly didn't do this myself; and the program doesn't have a time limit for use that I'm aware of.  Obviously, I remedied the issue by getting a new copy from their website with my activation code.

Upon opening my browser less than an hour ago, I was told by my copy of Avast that VDU was suspect and was going to be shut down, isolated, etc.  This really took me by surprise.  Avast didn't go into any details about what was going on, either.  I made an exception for VDU, cuz I'd still like to be able to use the thing.

Regarding this, I have two (sets of) questions.

1.  Is there something about VDU that Avast knows that I don't?  Maybe it really is up to no good, and I just let it have its way with me and my computer?

2.  I suspect that Avast uninstalled VDU without informing me.  Does this sort of thing happen with Avast?  Why would it not tell me the first time, but then tell me about it the second time?  Maybe it's a bug?

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Open Avast → Settings → Troubleshooting → Disable Avast self-protection module→Click OK.

Type in the search box on the start menu or Press the Windows + R key to have the Run command be displayed Copy and Paste the location where the log is stored.
