Avast has blocked Iranian IPs again...
« on: April 20, 2018, 10:06:20 AM »
Hi, I'm an "Avast Free Antivirus" user from Iran. I've been using your product for more than 5 years and it's one of the best of its kind out there. So, thank you for that. But, today as I opened "Avast Free Antivirus", I was presented with this message:

Sorry, this product in not supported in your current location:

It was working until yesterday. I also get this message when I'll browse to Avast website:

As a matter of fact I couldn't register here with Iran's IP, I'm currently using an VPN to change my IP.

I don't really know what to say. I know that most Iranians probably use the free version of your antivirus, but this kind of behavior toward them is unprofessional and quite frankly mean. There are small businesses relying on such products. It's not gonna change the government really. It's only the people who suffer.

I mean people all around the world are resisting censorship and inequality (look at Telegram's situation with the Russians or people fighting over net neutrality in the US) In this time of history when Pavel Durov calls for "Digital Resistance – a decentralized movement standing for digital freedoms and progress globally", blocking a whole nation just because of their government is backward thinking. I'm shocked as well as sorry to see such behaviors...

So, I really hope this is some kind of mistake for Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement.

It's certainly not related to the use of the free version.
In case there's a political block, Avast has to obey the rules.

Avast does what the regulatory agencies allow. The block if there is one, isn't under Avast's control.

I do not want to Refund.

Because if we are sanctions, I will not be able to receive the amount in return.

If you have sold the license, you are required to provide the necessary services.

If you do, you are a non-committed company and betray your customers.

If this is the case, again, I say that you are a liar, and deceiving your work for whatever you do.

If we are in a boycott, why did you build this site at the time of your boycott?

https://www.avast.com/fa-ir/index

And inside it you wrote Avast again in Iran.

Did you not deceive, and we made the license to pay a lot of money.

The cost of licensing in our country is very heavy because the currency of the countries is different. However, we purchased this license from you. Is it okay to deal with this?

If your answer to this boycott is yes. Be sure your software will be cracked and released on the Internet for you to give back your work.

As said, Avast has to obey the laws, else they'd go out of business.

What about Avast returning the money if cannot deliver the product? It seems to me that Avast is taking advantage of the situation to rip off people from Iran, because they cannot do anything.

Sometimes it helps to look at the entire threat. :)
