Port 563 snews
« on: April 20, 2018, 11:48:18 PM »
Hi,

I'm running a nmap scan to check all my open ports and find port 563 snews is open.

I run: netstat -aon | find "563" to find the program opening the port and get PID 2520 which is Avast Service (32-bit).

Does anyone else know about this? Why does Avast use the snews port? I want to close it and still use Avast.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

See if this https://superuser.com/questions/388567/why-is-tcp-port-563-opened throws some light on it.

Are you using a newsreader as that may open this port or avast may well be monitoring and newsreader traffic over that port.

As far as I'm aware avast doesn't hold ports open when it is monitoring traffic over these news, mail or web http/https ports.
