Microsoft has released the April update (Windows 10 RS4) for Windows 10. This note is to inform you that Avast Endpoint Protection, Avast Endpoint Protection Plus, Avast Endpoint Protection Suite, Avast Endpoint Protection Suite Plus, Avast File Server Security, and Avast Email Server Security are not compatible with the Windows 10 April update. Customers using these Avast products will receive notification that their Avast software must be uninstalled before Windows 10 can be updated successfully.

Customers who are not planning to upgrade to Windows 10 RS4 should stay on their current Avast products. However, for those customers who are using the above-mentioned products and moving to Windows 10 RS4, we urge you to upgrade them to the Avast Business products before updating to Windows 10 RS4.

To migrate to the new Avast Business products, contact Avast Business Support. Support will provide the comparable product licenses to what your customers currently have and guide you through the migration process.

After recently buying a 3yr Business Subscription for avast! Endpoint Protection. That is managed by avast! Small Office Administrator and is thus a paid for service not a free service I would certainly expect an update to allow the avast! Endpoint Protection range to work on the OS it was sold to work with as Windows 10 RS4 (Build 1803) is a mandatory update due to the original Creators Update (Build 1703) released nearly 2yrs ago, which of course is before the subscriptions where sold.

Therefore, to force a paid for upgrade on a service already paid for, to perform the task already paid for certainly doesn't sound legal. As it was sold to work with Windows 10 post Creators Update (Build 1703) which forces feature updates.

Noticed this the other day too, that 1803 is fully incompatible with EPP / EPS.  Not that anyone who's been using Windows 10 for the past few years is at all surprised, as the 8.x versions of the suite have caused me plenty of compatibility headaches since Win 8.1.

I see Infra seems to have posted a graphic about the migration path about which I've been hearing 'was coming' since over 2 years ago, so call me skeptical until I see a web form I can put my license info / .dat into and magically get one for ABA Managed.  If anyone has such a link / reference point, please share.  We paid for a 3-year renewal sub in 2016 that I have been quite unhappy with, as we haven't been able to use EPS for most of Win 10's lifespan so far, and though Defender or other free tools are largely adequate for what we need, getting a decent year or so out of our remaining subscription would go pretty far towards us actually thinking about re-subbing in 2019.

The migration from Avast Endpoint Protection to Avast Business is free. Please, contact with your reseller and ask the migration.

Hi,

Have you had any experience carrying out the migration? Wondered how easy it would be to upgrade all of the clients, and then transfer my management settings from AEA Console into the cloud.

For the moment, I have declined the Windows 10 v1803 update within my WSUS Server.

Kind Regards, Stephen

I have not tested but...

How to transfer from Enterprise Administration (EA) or Small Office Administration (SOA) to Avast Business

1. Seach for a file export.xml on the device where your EA/SOA console is installed:
With EA console the file is located in: C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Enterprise Administration\DATA\log
With SOA console the file is located in: C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Administration Console

2. Import the XML file. You will get an overview of how many groups and devices you're able to transfer.
Note: Settings/Policies will also be transferred alongside the devices.

3. Once successfully imported, devices from the EA/SOA console will start to appear in this console in the Devices section.
This might take a while and when they will appear, they will have a status Pending.

4. On the Devices page, manually select the groups or devices you want to transfer by clicking the Transfer button.
These device's statuses will change from Pending to Transferring.

5. You might then also need to activate devices manually if you have more than one license. Old EA/SOA products will be replaced (reinstalled) with Avast Business Antivirus or Avast Business Antivirus Pro, depending on what editions you had in your old console.
You can change or combine multiple editions (we call them licenses) from the Licenses section

6. Once devices are fully transferred they will have the status Safe, Vulnerable, or In Danger, depending on the health of the device.

7. You've finished transferring from EA/SOA to Avast Business. Congratulations!

I'm not sure that we can, we bought it from an online reseller that no longer exists.

InfoTech,

Many thanks. At least I have some idea of the process involved.

I have to say that my past experience of upgrading the Avast client software is not great. More often than not, I have ended up visiting the local workstations and running the Uninstaller (avastclear.exe) before deploying the latest version from the console.

Thanks again, Stephen

We haven't got experience with the automatic migration procedure from AEA/ASOA to Avast Business Management Console, but we have migrated a lot of customers and devices (on a manual way) from Avast Endpoint Protection to Avast Business and, in most of them, you only need to run the Avast Business setup file to uninstall AEP and install AB.

In some machines (when the "normal" setup fails), you need to uninstall AEP first (even using avastclear.exe), and the run the AB setup file. You know, every device is a different world!

I think I will end up doing just that. Most of the client settings relate to "folder exceptions", so I will just have to bite the bullet and get it done.

Do you know if this is an all or nothing switch? Presumably we will get a new license key for AB, and the AEP will stop working? Ideally, I could do with sorting out the Windows 10 Clients, and then dealing with the Windows 7 machines at a later date.

Thanks again, Stephen
