Avast updates runs out in September! EEK
« on: June 25, 2006, 11:13:40 PM »
On this computer, Windows ME.  I run Avast and ZoneAlarm Free firewall. I am very pleased. I also run AdAware SE and SpyBots for spyware removal.  This computer is in good shape, as far as I know. ;D
In september my Avast will stop getting updates.  What is the procedure to reactivate Avast?
I have looked and can't find the answer on Avast web site.  I am sure it is there. Will Avast remind me of the expiration date and offer to help me reactive it again?  This is new to me.

Another question!  Is Avast going to keep offering free antivirus to Windows 98SE and ME users, after July 11th, the shut off date.  I sure hope so.

I am hoping in a few months that maybe I can buy the upgrade to XP for this Win ME at a cheaper price.  $100 is a bit steep at the present time.  Any suggestions?

Thank you for your advice.
Becky

Update to XP if you get the chance, to be honest I'm not sure if you get notification prior to running out.  But you will be notified when it runs out and tries to do  the first update.  Then you just need to re-register  ;D

You re-register and an email with the license/registration key will be send in the same way as when you first registered avast! 4 Home Registration.

Q: My licence key has expired, what to do? http://www.avast.com/eng/faq-registration-license.html#idt_1442

avast is unconnected with the cessation of MS updates for win98/ME it currently works with win95 (and that was long ago dumped by MS) also so I think you can see that you should be OK. However, I'm not an employee of Alwil software so I can't speak for them.
