Downloading update
« on: May 13, 2018, 04:08:34 PM »
I learnt the hard way with AVG a few years ago when I got an update message within the application but was actually a virus so I now go to official websites to download updates if I can.

When I launch Avast, I get a window saying  Security Update Available

Program Version is 18.3.2333 Build 18.3.3860.360
Virus Definition version is  180513-2

This has been the case for a while so how do I download an update for Premier from the website? That is assuming it is pucker of course - is it?

On another point :
I did some surfing yesterday and on restarting my computer today and it opening Chrome I received a Microsoft essentials tab telling me my computer was infected with 2 viruses and one piece of spyware. It wasn't the BSOD mimic that has been happening to some. Being cautious I scanned with Avast Premier first and then Malware Bytes Free. Neither found anything suspicious. I closed the tab. Is there another variant? This is the address

You are posting in the Avast Beta section of the forum.

If these questions are about Avast, I would suggest that you continue this in a new topic on the
Avast Free Antivirus / Pro Antivirus / Internet Security/ Premier forum.

Direct download locations are in this topic https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=218904.0.

A screenshot of the 'Security Update Available' message would be helpful.

###
Any virus related questions should be asked in the Viruses and Worms sub forum.

That said, why would Microsoft be giving this warning (again screenshot would help) with Avast installed then Windows Defender should have been disabled.

This is what came up.

First I have never used MSE and unfortunately the information (full text) is obscured by the secondary window and text that is hidden because of the text scrolling.

This really needs to go in the Viruses and Worms sub forum as I said before.

And you need more details on what windows version you are using as MSE  is different from that installed on windows 10.  Unless this is as a result of running a security update with the Malicious Software Tool included.

As you can see by the questions needing answers and I'm not a qualified malware removal specialist, this needs to be in the viruses and worms sub-forum.

This must be a FakeAV webpage, not a legitimate Microsoft one.

Certainly appears that way. Never have seen a Microsoft webpage start with "safety" ???

That is what I'm thinking and why I'm pushing for the OP to post in the Viruses and Worms forum to get qualified help.  Otherwise everything that is covered her would need to be stated there.

Definitely a fake website, but not because of how the domain name starts, but how it ends. The domain name ends with lfhnb.osgsrdfqw2svbe39.stream. In that case stream is the top level domain, osgsrdfqw2svbe39 belongs to stream, lfhnb belongs to osgsrdfqw2svbe39 etc.

Microsoft has a valid, certified domain within .com top level domain, so the web address should end with microsoft.com.

I recommend checking https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fully_qualified_domain_name to learn more about domain naming. Also it is a good idea to check if the certificate by which the site is identified, has been issued to Microsoft.
