Extreme Data Usage

I've been using the avast mobile security app on my android HTC one for about two years now with no major issues. I got a data usage alert from my provider this month saying I had only 10% data remaining, which is shocking since I average less than 1GB out of my 3GB a month. Checked my data usage info and it turns out avast had used over 2.5GBs of data this month. I immediately went through all the settings to figure out what was causing this. I turned off any data reporting, etc, and hoped that was enough. Within a few hours, I got a notice that I went over my data and got charge $15 (avast managed to used up another .3GBs in these few hours). I've uninstalled the app for the time being because I can't risk getting anymore charges for this chaos. I'd like to continue using the app if there's a way to prevent this, since this seems like a serious bug. If anyone has had this issue and knows a way to fix it, I'd really appreciate the help.

We've received this feedback few times before and now we're investigating the root cause. So far we didn't manage to reproduce the problem. Could you please help us by providing the following informations?

  • Device Model
  • Android version
  • Avast mobile security build number (in about screen)
  • GUID (in about screen tap 3 times on build number)
  • Profile ID
  • Carrier

I am experiencing a similar issue these past couple of weeks on my Samsung Galaxy S6.
Only 2 weeks into my monthly plan, and already Avastin Mobile Security has reportedly used 1.5+ GB!!!
I am about to exceed my data usage!

Hi,

I also have an extreme data usage with my Sony Xperia 3 compact. Since the 1st of May, Avast used 3.85Gb (this is 2/3 of my data for the month).
Do you have any solution to fix this?

I have posted about my problem in topic " Extreme data usage by Avast Mobile App".  I have a Moto E (2nd Generation) phone with 4G LTE.  My Android version is 5.1.  My carrier is Verizon.  I updated AMS+Antivirus version 6.1.3 on May 1, 2017.  I don't know the answers to other information you asked.

Peoples saying "I have the same" is not much helpful for avast to chase where the problem is.
Provide the information that is asked for in reply #1.

Hi. I have a similar problem. Been using avast mobile security  for years without issues. Yesterday my data was low, so I bought an additional 2GB data at about 4pm. When I woke up this morning, I saw that I  had received notifications on excessive data use during the night, and by 4am my data was finished! Looking at my data usage info, it came purely from the avast app.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S7
Android version 58.0.3029.83
Avast version 6.1.3
Not sure where to find the build number and GUID

I will have to buy more data now, but scared that it will immediately be eaten up by avast again. And I don't really want to disable the antivirus, but perhaps it is the  only option? Please assist.

If I click on the build number 3 times, I get a message saying I am 4 steps away from being a developer. No GUID number.

I have now deleted avast. Will try to reinstall tonight and see what happens.

I have the same problem yesterday, used to 400MB in one day and 681MB since Nov 2, along with an issue of using up 44% of battery since last full charge.  Here my info:

Hi Peggy, Avast Mobile Security version 6.10.4 is a really old one - please update to the latest one, 6.23.9, it should help.
