Avast keeps private internet access from working

PIA (Private Internet Access) is a VPN that provides a Chrome Extension adds security measures to the browser.  Avast appears to completely block it. Disabeling Avast Web Shield allows PIA to run.  But is that a good idea? I would assume not.

- Which version..?
- OS..? (32/64 Bit..? - which SP/Build..?)
- Other security related software installed..?
- Which AV(s) did you use before Avast..?

Since PIA isn't free, I am not willing to test it.
No problem installing it, it just doesn't work without a payment.
