Mirror problem(s)
« on: June 29, 2006, 10:59:01 AM »
On my "child" AMS I've just discovered that the mirroring process never happens.
If I go to the console, click settings -> mirror and set the standard mirroring settings

auto-sync mirror every = 30 minutes (and checkbox flagged)
mirror http port = 5033
and click OK
Just after that, I come back to the settings window , re-click mirror and boom, the settings are not set (everything is unset).
And in fact with netstat -a -n I can verify that the mirror http server is not running, EVEN IF in the services console it's running ok.

If I manually edit the file
AMS\mirror\config\httpd.ini and put the port 5033 (it was 0 before i set it) and restart the Avast! iAVS4 mirror http server it correctly starts and I can access it.

BUT if I click again on the settings button and try to access the mirror settings the httpd.ini file reverts back to the wrong settings.
ALSO, I tried to set it read-only, and this way it isn't overwritten.

Following one of Vlk's suggestions (from another topic I found) I tried to run the mirror.exe manually, and it correctly updated the mirror. (and my clients can update from it).

But if I don't run it manually it doesn't run.

I already tried to repair the AMS and also I updated it, but with no luck.

Thank you in advance

I assume you're using the latest version of ADNM (on the leaf server) - that is, 4.7.531.

It seems that the server things that it is not who it is. I.e. the properties you're setting in the Settings window are not saved where they should be (to the properties of the local server).

Please check the file <ADNM>\Data\Avast4.ini. Is there a line

ServerId=<something>

?

Has the "avast management server" service (or the whole machine) been restarted since making the AMS subscription? Can you try to restart the service, and see if it makes any difference? (that is, if you can then set the stuff via ADNM console).

Thx

I didn't remember if I had restarted the service, so I did it and then tried to reopen the console and re-set the mirror parameters but it still "forgets" them.

I'm puzzled, also because the primary AMS was installed the very same way and does indeed mirror ok.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

I'll try to simulate the problem here. I'll get back to you as soon as I find out more.

Could you please check one more thing for me?

In the ADNM console, go to the Management Servers folder, highlight the leaf server we're talking about, and in the lower pane, verify that it says

Server ID: 27120680

Thanks

You are right!
In the console the SRV-ASL04 server shows another id

Server ID : 7901400

How can it be????

But more importantly, what should I do now?

Thank you again  :)

There was more than one subscription attempt, actually, if I'm not mistaken...?

Anyway, try changing the value in the INI file to

ServerId=7901400

and restarting the service. That should do the trick.

Somehow, the server thinks its ID is 27120680 while it is completely different. That's why it's not saving the properties correctly (it doesn't know it's actually its own settings :))

Thanks

Yes, when I had problems with the replication I had tried to uninstall and reinstall the leaf AMS, and I had subscribed it.
I guess it left some traces.

I'll try as soon as I can, just now I have to leave.
In the late evening or tomorrow morning I'll be able to try and will report back to you.

Thanks to you Vlk! (I'm quite confident it will work ^_^ )

I've just tried to correct the serverid field in the avast4.ini file and restarted the service but it still doesn't save the fields nor update the mirror...
I have just a question...on the root AMS, under the second-level mirrors, should I put in the address of the leaf AMS?
From the documentation I'd guess not, but now I am dubious...

Also, in the registry (HKLM\Software\Alwil Software\Avast\av_mgm\4.0\SS) I've noticed a serverid value...does it matter?

Thanks for any help

HKLM\Software\Alwil Software\Avast\av_mgm\4.0\SS

Oh yes, I forgot about this one. This one needs to be deleted when changing the INI file...

Thanks

I deleted the value , restarted the service and now I can confirm it works!

The mirror settings remain set and the mirror itself is being updated.

Thank you Vlk!
