Final Fantasy XI Won't Run with Avast

Hello there folks, I'm a newbie in these boards.  I was just turned on to Avast and I have installed it on my system and I like it.  Seems to be better than AVG.  However I have a problem with the software on my kid's systems.  Two of them are playing the Final Fantasy XI game online and they both tell me that they have to turn Avast off in order to play the game.  Since I've only had Avast a few days I am not familiar with the program yet.  I was hoping that someone out there knew how to fix this problem so Avast can run while they play their game.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Why do they have to turn it off.  What are the symptoms >

My daughter first noticed the problem and all she told me was that she "couldn't get on the Internet of FFXI."  What exactly that means I don't know.  I'll check it out later today when she gets on her system.
