Avast free not updating to latest build?
« on: June 11, 2018, 01:44:53 PM »
Hi,

Both my desktop and laptop are running on win10 with Avast Free.
Desktop - wired connection.
Laptop - wireless connection.

I noticed that my desktop Avast Free will auto update to latest build upon boot-up.
But my laptop Avast Free will not auto update to latest upon boot-up.
Is the below build latest?
Desktop - 18.4.2338 (build 18.4.3895.327)
Laptop - 18.4.2338 (build 18.4.3895.326)

To make my laptop to latest build, i download and run the offline installer.
Is there a way to run manual update on laptop so that it will become 18.4.3895.327 instead of download the installer and run the setup again?

I have a win10 64bit version 1803 and avast free, also on a WiFi connection.  I have my program updates set to Manual as I don't want programs (not just avast) to auto update.

I have had no problems in doing a manual program update - Avast Tray Icon > Right Click - Update - Program and that has worked for me on all my systems.  See attached images, I did test the update and it did check, but I already have the latest version.

Though it is no bad thing to download the off-line installation file, I save a copy of it if downloaded, in case I ever want/need to revert back to it.

Try to reboot several times.

When i try to manual update, it just say that program is already up to date.
Manual update i believe doesn't work for minor update (i am referring to the build number) behind 18.4.2338 under "About Avast".
Just curious about the differences in between the different build number and if there is a manual way to do update for minor build besides just rebooting :D

Hi,

Desktop - 18.4.2338 (build 18.4.3895.327)
Laptop - 18.4.2338 (build 18.4.3895.326)

I'm not sure there's one version more up to date than the other between xxxxx.326 and xxxxx.327.
I think it's just an update server difference.
As far as I am concerned, all my computers are in xxxxx.326 and I don't worry about it.

1.  If you get the Program is up to date message, as I did in my attached image 2, if the program version is the same (excluding build numbers) I don't worry.  However, if you get the 'program is already up to date' state and it differs from your program version, then there is some action needed.

2.  Generally I don't get overly concerned if the build number differs, the main one is the program version.  From time to time there could be an update which is carried out outside of a full program update and may not be reflected in the off-line installation or the manual program update check.
