dmclient.exe Threat blocked by Avast Free / false positive
« on: June 16, 2018, 05:44:17 PM »
Virustotal says it is fine
Once Avast blocks the file, what steps should be taken to recover it, if Virustotal found no threat in that file?
Is creating an exception a good option? Thanks

It says:
Threat blocked

We´ve blocked the threat dmclient.exe from harming your computer

What would you like to do?

Move to virus chest or Create exception

Threat name   IDP.Generic
Process  C\\Windows\System32\dmclient.exe
Detected by   Behavior Shield

Should I click one of the two options offered, or just dismiss it completely? Thanks

Hi Android656,

The file is an official Windows 10 executable or worse malware that poses as an official Windows 10 executable.
Errors with dmclient.exe are sometimes related to registry issues.

Do not try to download dmclient.exe from other sources as they are not the official Windows developed executables.

What you could do is to provide us with logs and wait for a qualified malware remover to look into the matter
and eventually help you out with this problem - Re: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=194892.0

Cybersecurity is more of an attitude than anything else. Avast Evangelists.

Use NoScript, a limited user account and a virtual machine and be safe(r)!
