Apologies for the wordy title.

As indicated I have a DOWN Windows 7 system - it is the "This copy of windows is not genuine" with a code of 7601 issue.
Since I have a Linux partition on the same drive I am TRYING TO debug from there.
Within Virtualbox I have created a virtual windows 10 machine in which I am running AVAST.

The windows 10 system does "see" the windows 7 partition, as well as another disc.
I have set up a targeted scan and while it SEEMS to be working it gets to a point where there is little/no apparent progress after several hours, i.e. the shared folders indicator light rarely blinks and the percent complete stays at about 11%.

OK, so a lot has to work for this to work at all and it SEEMS to be working.
My basic question is whether I should expect this to run into some sort of a loop, e.g. are there links that are known to route back to the same place and never resolve ?
