Core Shields Off unitl next restart not working
« on: July 01, 2018, 12:04:24 PM »
Hello,

Before I download / install new updates for Flight Simulator software products I turn off Core Shields (File and Behavior)  unitl next computer restart.

After the computer restart if I bring up Avast I get a message saying these Shields are still Off and I have to select option to turn them back on.
In my case I had used the PC for several hours before I used Avast again and found out the Shields were still Off (PC un-protected?).

For the past years all previous versions of Avast have not had this problem.

Why did you turn off the protection to update your program???

Otherwise false positives and updates go into the virus vault.

Have you tested my reported problem ?

Follow up info:
I took a screenshot of a Flight Sim Software forum post which shows the typical caution (to prevent any False Positives) during updates.

That'a also the same terminology used by hackers if they want to slip some malware onto your computer.
I'll question the possibility of an interference by my AV if there is a problem but certainly don't turn it off just because someone makes such a comment.
Your computer, your choice. Certainly not mine.

Thanks for your additional information.

Is it possible to verify if my original Avast problem report is accurate?

I think that the problem I reported is a bug in Avast.

Edit:
I an rather new to this forum.
Am I reporting the problem in the correct forum area?

Testing your reported problem right now on my system:

I'll now be restarting the system to see the results and post a screenshot after
the system has been restarted.

@ vbmartell,
Thanks for reporting this problem. As you can see, I can confirm your report,

After restarting the System, those shields that I and you turned off, are still off.

I used the following option to activate the shields:

Needless to say, that action should not have been required.

This is a policy (for several years not just now) of Flight One Software developer (the forum post I previously quoted in a screenshot) and other developers of software for Flight Simulation.
Their software will trigger False Positives during product download and installation ... which have been reported to Virus checking programs (developers like Avast) but no solution ... like quit flagging our software a  threat.

So I follow their instructions/cautions and the software gets downloaded and installed without a problem.

If you're running this version:

and are still having the problem, follow this:

Repair Avast:
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed
https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB204

If Repair doesn't fix the problem, try the following:
Clean Install of Avast:

If you need additional help with the Clean Install, watch this:

If you're running an older version, update from here:

Was curious as I don't turn shields off for pretty much any reason so didn't notice an issue.
Lots of notification though as well as Security Center notification
I can also confirm this behavior in latest AIS beta 2343.
