First, VERY sorry for cross post.  Tried to post in the original thread but the CAPTCHA implementation is just so poor, after 10 type in catcha and more than 50 refresh the letters, NOTHING would take.

I'm trying to track something down.  I've been getting random screen flashes, or the whole nearly full screen safari page is flashing.  I thought at first it was a screenshot being taken by a malware or virus, not sure at this point.
MWB or Avast hasn't found any malware or virus, but I get these random flashes.

Is there something in the program that would be doing this possibly? When it's parsing a URL or giving some sort of feedback?

we don't do anything like this in AV.
Is it only Safari? Maybe there is an Safari extension installed that does it? Does it happen on certain webpages?

don’t go to questionable websites,
A reputable website that is clean today can be hacked and infected tomorrow ... how do you avoid that?

It did happen with this forum, not infected but hacked   https://blog.avast.com/2014/05/26/avast-forum-offline-due-to-attack/

And don’t bother with AV software on a Mac.
That is like saying Volvo cars dont crash so you dont need insurance ......

sometimes you don't notice that you were attacked. And you can be a part of large botnet. And you won't notice that your identity has been stolen unless there are purchases and loans on your name. Today, the goal of the bad guys is the money, of course.
You are partially right that staying on safe site of internet is safer. However the bad guys know it too. And they do their best to silently use the non-questionable sites to spread their malware.
