Got rid of Avast
« on: July 21, 2018, 08:29:23 PM »
Had Avast Premier for years.
It stopped updating virus definitions or the program itself about a year or so ago.
When I uninstalled it, it made me lose my ethernet connection.
On Windows 8.1.

So I kept it & updated it manually.

Now I have the latest version of Windows 10 Pro.

With 8.1 & 10 Pro(earlier versions) I lost my ethernet connection after uninstalling Avast Premeir.

In desperation I downloaded the free version of Avast & installed it OVER the installed version of Avast Premier.
It replaced the Premier version totally.

Today I used Revo Uninstaller to remove the Avast Free version.
Only after using Macrium Reflect to make a complete system image of my OS.

After Avast was removed I still had my internet connection. :)

Windows Defender started automatically.

Never again will I use any Avast product.

To me the paid versions are too invasive.  I don't want all that crap running in the background,
it's slows down the PC and It's too big a trade off for me.
So I run the free version and only install the two shields nothing else

But this is for the individual to decide his/her comfort levels, level of tech experience,
etc,etc.

In the past avast has made some horrendous design choices,
like trying to install and run a virtual machine on users PC's.  The less said
about that the better, and gives some credence to my choice to run the simple configuration
AMD FX-4300 4GB DDR3
avast free 2279 (Windows XP), MBAM free
