The YouTube video you are referencing deals with illegally hacking Avast.
Certainly not something condoned by us or Avast.  :(

Would appear since this version is hacked, Avast is under no legal obligation to support it with vps updates or otherwise.   

Which is likely why you've issues with updating.  :o

Which is likely why you've issues with updating.  :o
Especially since the updates would catch the hack and make the copy illegal and revet back to free or an expired version.
Could never understand why if you want the protection and can't afford the paid version, you simply don't use the Free Version.
I've used the free version since 2003 and it's always served me well.
