AVastui.exe and desktop/taskbar icons not installed with Free 18.5.3931

Installing on an older HP A6512P with 4GB running windows Vista.
installer seems to have completed and a background scan was run (according to task and process mgr)
service and updater service seem to be loaded but
* no desktop icon was created
* avastui.exe was not installed
* task bar does not show avast at all
