Infections found - what to do next?
« on: August 15, 2018, 10:36:23 AM »
Hi everyone

I've run an initial full scan on my mac and it's found 1349 infections (screenshot attached). Some seem to have automatically been moved to the chest but I'm unsure what to do with the others. Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Hi Amber,

The infections listed in your screenshot [PUP] are Pups, which stands for "Potentially Unwanted Program"

As a rule, these are not "infections" in the true sense of the word, but based on many user votes, programs that do things that may be generally considered annoying, like initiating popup or links to sites to promote (spam) purchasing of other software.

For my own part, anything that Avast indicates as a PUP (on my PC - I'm a relatively new MAC user myself) I get rid of. But that's my own personal choice of action. You can follow Avast's recommendation and allow it to remove those programs (this is the recommended action by me) or simply tell it to ignore them if they're not causing you any grief.

Hope you found this information helpful.

Regards,

Andrew

Or maybe he/she mean the "Unable to scan" files?

How do I handle files that Avast can’t scan?  >>  https://blog.avast.com/2014/02/28/how-do-i-handle-files-that-avast-cant-scan/

Hello,

I'm a first time user of Avast and would really love some help please as I'm very confused  :-[

I did a Full System Scan of my Mac and the result was 29 infected files (as screenshot attached). Two have already been moved to the Chest but I have no idea what to do with the other files listed in the report? Most seem to be relating my old Outlook 2011 and my current Outlook, and two are some kind of "sparse bundle" thing that I am worried if I move or delete it might break my computer as I have no idea what they are for but sounds very technical!

I installed Avast just the other day so am on version 13.11

Any pointers or feedback would be greatly appreciated!

@rosyrose Most of them seems to be mail attachments
