Avast blocks mail access in Thunderbird
« on: August 19, 2018, 09:07:51 AM »
Avast prevents email reception in Thunderbird 52.9.1 (32-bit) (latest) even with MAIL SHIELD uninstalled. The shields even block access to Avast Forum unless I stop the shields. This is too much. I'll have to find another antivirus program.
NOTE: verification image very hard to read!

Thunderbird CAN work perfectly with Thunderbird, but the process is a bit complicated compared to other email clients. I remember the process only in general terms.

- You must create an avast! certificate using avast! itself, the button is somewhere in the email UI
- You must add the certificate in Thunderbird... can't remember where the option is, somewhere in Security and Certificates.

Done!

Sorry but, I repeat, cannot remember the process in detail.

Does it work if you go to:

Settings -> Components -> Mail Shield -> Customize -> SSL scanning

and uncheck "Scan SSL connections"?

If not, I'll try to find time to detail the procedure for adding Avast's certificate to TBird (it is a bit of a performance!).

Edit: BTW, the latest Thunderbird is 60.0.

Guys, before we dig deeper we need to know about the basic setup.

Agreed without more detailed information we are just speculating.

There is more going on here than Avast blocking mail access in Thunderbird, especially since even with Mail Shield uninstalled, it still doesn't work.  Added to that 'blocking access to the forums' unless the shields are disabled, as in why it would block access to the forum but not the rest of (or other sites also) the internet.
