Rare redirects to other languages, possibly because of Avast?
« on: October 22, 2018, 06:47:11 PM »
This is what went down: I recently deleted all my cache/internet history and started up ebay. When I went to log in (through the same bookmark I've always used), my ebay account was redirected to the Russian version of the ebay page. This only happened once, when I reloaded the page it went back to English. I'm thinking this may be an issue related to Avast passwords as for some reason Avast passwords doesn't work well for me on ebay unless I continually reload the page (it works fine on hotmail and other sites).

The reason I think it may be Avast is because I've had issues in the past where websites thought I was in Czech Republic when my VPN was on, which is understandable. The odd thing here is that I haven't used my Avast VPN in a few weeks.  Again, this happened right after I cleared all my cache and internet history. I've also only been using Avast password very briefly (about a week).

What I want to know is, is this possibly a redirect hack? Or is it likely some thing Avast did by accident? I know it only happened once but should I take this seriously?

-I've recently scanned everything with 2 antivirus programs, done sfc /scannow, and several other things. Everything came back clean.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, but only Avast is running at any given time. I only use malwarebytes for occasional scanning, it doesn't even show up in task manager as far as I can tell.

Yeah but it does have an active scanner/web blocker on the version I have (not the free version). I could see how it might cause a conflict when fully active.

Anyways, do you think this is single redirect is anything worth worrying about? It was the official ebay site from what I could tell, just the Russian version instead. I can't seem to reproduce the action.

-I also notice that Avast password auto-fill will only work if I stop loading the page (hit the X before it fully loads).
