Getting the crap off! 3S
« on: July 10, 2006, 06:05:28 PM »
Hi malware fighters,

Leaving crap on your computers after a session can be dangerous. You never know what was left there, and what it is going to do.
As we see during some phases of the malware cleansing routines, people are asked to run crap cleaners like ATF-cleaner. I use it myself, and very pleased with the results. If you want to investigate what you got there before deleting URL explorer or a Hex viewer can be handy. But a very good tool is also 3S aka System Security Suite. You can find it here:
http://www.igorshpak.net/

System Security Suite (3S) is the program to remove internet tracks and junk files from your computer. It allows you to delete Cookies, clear Internet Explorer Cache, delete index.dat Files, clear Typed URLs, Windows Temp Folder and much more. You can also specify custom folder locations with file masks, which will be cleaned in addition to the selected items. In addition, the program allows you to view and optionally remove programs that launch automatically at Windows startup.

System Requirements: Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP, IE 4.01 or later with integrated shell.

Program can:
- delete Cookies,
- clear Internet Explorer Cache,
- delete index.dat Files,
- clear Typed URLs,
- clear Internet Explorer History,
- clear AutoCompleted passwords,
- clear AutoCompleted Forms,
- clear Windows Temp Folder,
- clear Document History,
- clear Run History,
- clear Search history,
- clear Recycle Bin,
- clear Windows Media Player MRUs,
- clear Recently Printed Files,
- clear any folders defined by user (completely or according to mask),
- save you from annoying programms which run every time on Windows start,
- give you control over Browser Helper Objects (BHOs).

And the best of all 3S is Freeware for personal use.

3S interface is very simple: just check the items you want program to clear and
click "Clear Selected Items" button.

As for User Defined folders, you can define the filters (a set of masks) for them like these:
   *.* (I hope you won't use this filter for C:\ ;) )
   *.tmp;*.bin;temp???.*; tmp*.*
If you use more than one mask for a filter you must separate them by semicolon
as it's shown above. You can check or uncheck any folder at any time: only
selected folders will be cleaned.

You can also prevent of the run some AutoRun tasks by "locking" them or marking them for delete.
Be carefil, it may be a usefil programm, not a virus or a keylogger so try to "lock and check" them before deletion (The same is right for BHO's Manager as well).

Use with care, "hoover your machine, before crap may set in.

Hi DrHayden1,

Well to use them both is a bit of overkill, well seems to me. In combination with ATF cleaner either of the two work perfectly.
I use CCleaner. There is also a extensive Polish free crapcleaner tool that has the name Odkurzacz (vacuum cleaner), that cleans all of the Augius stables on the PC: files and registry).
