Defender and AIS
« on: July 01, 2018, 11:40:21 AM »
Hi to all,

I run windows 10 v1803. Using AIS for several years I can see that the antivirus service cannot start today.

I've been aware of this problem on another computer running the same version of Windows and AIS: several licenses.

So, on one of my computers, I see that this service cannot start even I try to start it manually. Looking on the windows service interface, I see that the different services of defender are positioned to start in an automatic way and, running, I cannot stop them or modify their automatic start position: all are greyed.

How can I solve that situation to recover a good behaviour of AIS?

Thanks for your help,

Francis

Have you tried a "Repair" of your Avast Installation.

Repair Avast:
Control Panel> Program and Features (Add/remove program)>Select Avast> Select Repair. Reboot when completed
https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB204

If Repair doesn't fix the problem, try the following:
Clean Install of Avast:

Hi Bob,
just this moment I tried this way, 'cause I want to try Windows Defender.
Windows is 1709.

I did the following:
- deinstallation with control panel
- Avast Uninstall Utility in Safe Mode for remaining drivers etc.
- Restart

Windows Defender is dectivated & cannot be activated.

What's wrong here?

Hi to all,

Thanks for all your posts giving ideas to resolve this problem.

My first reaction was to repair AIS using windows functions. This repair action give the guilty: defender. Avast repair tool told me that another antivirus was running and to uninstall it first: defender on win 10.

Today, the problem is. I've try to make to don't start the different windows services of defender. The system restart without defender and without AIS: the AIS services stayed stopped.

Two days ago, I've uninstalled AIS to install the free version of avast: the system doesn't want to start even Avast antivirus!

I don't know how to solve my problem!

Any ideas else?

Thank for your help.

Francis

Sounds more like you have leftovers from previous Antivirus program(s) still installed on your system
that may be giving you a problem. What AV was installed on your computer before Avast and how did you remove it?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

It's very simple: defender! The repair operation tells me that defender was the AV running on the system and cannot repair.

I've red several things on the forum about this incompatibility of perfect run between Win 10-1803 and AIS or Avast AV product.

I'm gone up to,  even, uninstall AIS to install Free avast AV. Same behaviour: the only avast service, parameted by install process on automatic start, cannot start. Even with the service management interface of Win 10, the service do't start at all.

I've read, also, that MS and Avast team are working together to find a soluce to this issue. May be with the following update of Win 10, in next October: v1809.

I've not try yet to uninstall avast with the clean uninstall to install again AIS. To give be a kind of hope I will do this but with no hope.

There is no AIS in Windows 10. It's called Defender and can not be removed. It's part of the OS. I personally have never run into an incompatibility
of Windows 10 and the Free version of Avast.

Hi,

Thanks Bob of your help.

In fact, yes. I've problems with defender on Win 10 (1803) and Avast.

Neither Avast free version nor AIS I can see a red cross ont the Avast Icon near the clock of the desktop. When I put the mouse on it, I can read I'm not protected.

If I open the main interface of AIS (or AVAST free), I can read that the service is not started. Even I click on the restart button the service doesn't start.

In the windows service Interface, the two avast services are stopped as they are noticed to start automatically. Starting them with this screen has the same result.

I've uninstall the soft, with the good erase soft of Avast (Avastclear). Each time I install again the Soft I get the same result.

A repair operation of AIS, or Avast free, can show the reason why I cannot have a good behaviour of AIS, or free version. The repair operation tells me, at the end of the process, that another antivirus is already installed and must be uninstalled before installing AIS. This soft, mentioned, is Defender!

How is it possible to get this result of the repair operation of AIS (Avast Internet Security)?

I think I've been well explained before: I've a problem with defender to run AIS.

How can I solve it?

Thanks for your help,
