geek area will be English only. the purpose is similar to //flags in Chrome or about:config in Firefox. Really not a place for normal user ;-)

Do you have suggestion for better name?

I would rather call it "Advanced Settings" or "Expert Area"  than geek area.
No matter what you call it, it's something that all nosey users will want to explore.
Mark something as "Keep Out" and everyone wants to get in. It's a fact of life.
"Advanced Settings" is probably the mildest and easiest to understand term.

No need to translate it, all geeks speak/understand English.
But Avast is not only a product for geeks or english people.
Yes, but the geek section is for experts only. Better keep noobs out there.

I don't know what is worse, the name or the implication to keep those out who aren't geeks.  Avast was essentially built around inexperienced users who didn't feel they needed a computer qualification to use it.

Do that and you are possibly cutting off 80% of Avast users.  Most of those visiting the forums seeking help are those you are saying keep out to.

The Geek Area literally has no purpose to casual users. Which is why it's entirely hidden unles you specifically call it via "geek:area" command in the search field of settings...

What I missing: not see when received the last streaming update, and it's state. (connected or not)

Personally, I like the name, so I'd vote for keeping it.

For me it seems to be a 'novelty'...."geek area"
It also could catch on with younger......
Hard to say.

I personally don't care either way, as long as it has real function (in depth settings etc.)and  I can access :)

Edit: I would add that I think users will appreciate the fact you now don't have to click OK at right bottom for changes in settings to take effect. ;)

and how do you like the new search? what about the fact that actions are being set for all core shields at one place?

1. and how do you like the new search?
2. what about the fact that actions are being set for all core shields at one place?
1. It's certainly helpful (esp. if one just started using Avast).
2. I'll answer that as soon as Avast Geek Area is finished... ;)

Yes the name would have been disturbing if the parameter was not hidden.
No it is not disturbing because the parameter is hidden.

It's exactly the same principle with chrome or firefox with chrome: // flags and about: config.

Is the term "flags" more logical to access hidden parameters than "geek"?

It's a programming thing.  I'll explain it if you like...

I would have to say if it is going to take weeks to finish, is it not a bit premature to have it in beta if it isn't ready ?

That would probably be even more obscure to the novice user, if you happy to explain it to tens/hundreds of millions of users :).
