On my Packard Bell(my wife's laptop) with Windows Vista Home Premium(licensed):

I had Avast Internet Security 2018 installed(licensed).
Sleep and Hibernate did not work.
I maked the steps you indicate for clear avast.
After clearing Avast with AvastClear.exe, Sleep and Hibernate are working again.

But, wait, after complete installing, Sleep and Hibernate don't work... Display is black but the hard disk continue to show activity.
Please, help me. It's about my wife...

PS. It's very clear, Avast Internet Security is creating this problem.
I know, Packard Bell Easynote Me35, Windows Vista... oldies.

I've forgot to write that Packard Bell Laptop was restored to factory settings. After that i installed all the updates from Packard Bell Site.
I installed SP1 and SP2. Alles war Perfekt.
I mention that the disk is SSD.

After installing Avast Internet Security, Sleep and Hibernate don't work. (After long time error: DRIVER_POWERSTATE_FAILURE and automate restart computer)
Please, help me. It's about my wife...

My Packard Bell is too old for Avast Internet Security 2018?
Shall i use an older version of this antivirus?

How can i protect my computer?

My Packard Bell had installed Norton 360(an 2007 version). I used from 2007 to 2008. It was slowing my computer.
Now it is uninstalled. I think and i hope.
I decided to use first Avast Free and from march 2008 licensed Avast.

Because i have preinstalled Vista Home Premium Edition, Windows Defender is OFF and i cannot enable(Cannot change policy) this Microsoft "Antivirus".

Maybe this will help:

It's a matter of security.
Every browsers installed don't permit acces(for example) to google.com - There is a problem with this website's security certificate.
Maybe all sites requiring HTTPS, I believe.

Something wrong in Vista security settings?

It's about Avast -
In Browser after i continue to address https://www.google.com i clicked on certificate error(in IE - address windows) and I click View certificates.
Many sites from my country(YES - Romania, see message from below) show this error(and don' permit access): Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.

Certificate Information

This certificate cannot be verified up to a trusted certificate authority.

Issued to *.google.ro
Issued by Avast Web/Mail Shield Untrusted Root
Valid from 28.08.2018 to 20.11.2018

Any suggestions?

PS. This disturbs me. I begin to believe that My Packard Bell is not protected.

My Packard Bell had installed Norton 360(an 2007 version).
First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of your prior installed AV(s)..!!
-> https://support.avast.com/article/11/

Then:
1. Download Avast Internet Security: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup_offline.exe
2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions..!!)
3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
4. Reboot.

First, i opened Norton page for Uninstall tool for Norton Antivirus.
I try to launch. Message This copy of Norton Remove and Reinstall is corrupted. Please download another copy from here.
I clicked address <here>. SAME RESULT.
What a MF is that?
This way is blocked.

Second, i will clear all versions of Avast installed and i will reinstall Avast Internet Security 2018.

Mister Asyn, i tested Avast Free Antivirus (for Vista). Address is : https://www.avast.com/windows-vista-antivirus

I cleared Avast Internet Security 2018. I downloaded setup from this address.
I installed Avast Free Antivirus.

Sleep and Hibernate works again. I lost Ransomware shield, Firewall Shield, Real Site Shield and Sandbox Shield.
For the moment i am happy.

Now i'm waiting for answers from Avast Sppurt Team.

PS. Problems remain with Security Certificates not recognized and Digital Signatures(ex. all executables downloaded from Avast) not recognized.
In Avast Secure Browser error(for HTTPS sites) NET:ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID.
