PLEASE update MANUALLY to 13.11 from 13.10

Dear user of Avast Security version 13.10 (if you are with any other version feel free to ignore),

Please update to new version 13.11 to fix an unfortunate issue that we introduced in the version 13.10.
Open Preferences > Updates. Click "Update Now" button in Program section. (Alternative way to fix this is restart of your Mac computer)


WHY?
This issue has no impact on the realtime protection capabilities or scan functionality of the product. From user perspective it's unrecognizable today. However the product doesn't automatically update its virus definitions that are constantly update by our ThreatLab team to protect you against the latest emerging threats. They usually deliver big virus definitions 2-4 times a day. Plus fast updates every 5 minutes.

WHAT happened?
We've updated infrastructure of the app package to get ready for the new macOSX release Mojave that was introduced yesterday (24.9.2018). And some of the paths don't update before the restart of your Mac. It's causing automatic updates to fail because the paths are inconsistent.

Lessons learnt
  • We've updated our automated test to discover similar issue before release next time
  • We updated our procedures to stop update of users faster - it took us 2 hours from discovery of issue to stop of updates to 13.10. It should happen within a few minutes next time!
  • We released new version 13.11 fixing the issue correctly within 4 hours!


We'd like to apologize for any inconvenience that this issue may caused. We'll take all possible steps to prevent it in future.

If a user already got the bad 13.11 update, would this self correct when a new program release is out (13.12, 13.2 etc) or is only way to resolve to manually update?

The wrong version is 13.10 not 13.11. The issue is that our update service was not re-registered in launchd during update to 13.10 and is trying to run automatic update service from old and no longer existing path.

Any user that installs 13.10 from scratch (no update), does not have the problem.
Any user that reboots his Mac does not have the problem.
Any user that manually updates to 13.11 does not have a problem as version 13.11 re-registers the service correctly.
