Question RE: Wifi Inspector
« on: September 20, 2018, 02:21:30 PM »
Hi all

The Wifi Inspector included with Avast Internet Security asks whether networks that it scans are "Home networks" or "Public networks". What is the difference between these two options? Does Avast carry out a different suite of tests for each?

Thanks for your help.

Hi
It's my understanding that the rules would probably be more strict on Public Wifi compared to Private behind your Router which I presume would be password protected so others could not enter/jump your wifi connection/sessions.
There may be other users with a more technical explanation. :)

Hi,
yes it does.

for example, for my own network , the wifi inspector detects the vulnerability "CVE-2017-14491" if you choose "home" but does not detect it if you choose "public", regardless of the actual firewall setting.

precisely about this vulnerability, could anyone say why the avast post that was talking about it has disappeared?

Chris,
You can always do a search of the forum for "CVE-2017-14491", there are numerous threads on that subject. The most recent seems to be:

Yes, I know how to do this kind of search .
The one I can't find is especially the one mentioned above where avast staff had given explanations  ;)

outside the subject's content, it's strange that the subject has been deleted.

Hi Asyn,

thank you for this answer which really answers my (main) question about the loss of the post.

For (a part of) the information you reported, I did read it yesterday , thanks anyway.
