Avast virus scan taking too long
« on: July 13, 2006, 02:51:07 PM »
Avast 4.7 pro
I schedule a Scan at 7am in the morning - 3.2 Ghz/1 gig ram Celeron windows xp2
usually it completes in about 30-40 minutes  - 33 gig/ 130,000 files
but now seems to continue endlessly and finishes at about 08:20am
Seems to me in the past the interface used to show the files clicking over and you could tell where it was on the drive ie c/d/e/f - the interface (enhanced) is not showing this anymore.
Is there a malfunction here? Also in the past it never slowed down my machine but now while scanning it impedes my operations
Has there been some update by MS/yourselves or dare I say it Norton (ghost) which has interfered with normal operations.
Finally is there some log file somewhere that shows start and stop time of every
scan and it success or failure?

Can you check if there is any log file about the issue?
<avast4>\Data\Log

Or any error files here:
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\_avast4_

 :)  Hi Alan :

The "Warning Log" mentions trojan(s) and Malware; what other
security program(s) do you have on your computer that should be
able to detect and delete these ?
For those having Win XP SP2 Operating System(s),  we usually
recommend the good & FREE "Ewido" from www.ewido.net/en .

Scanned for trojans and malware - removed two lowly trojans and 114 medium risk cookies -we will wait and see
