Opinions on this article regarding Antiviruses and Windows Defender protection, so many people I speak to, consult with for PC tech issues, local shops, all keep telling me to drop Avast, and just rely on Defender, and Malwarebytes.    So far have kept Avast installed, but it's tempting at times just to use Defender for protection

https://www.pcworld.com/article/3434097/why-you-can-stop-paying-for-antivirus-software.html
That is the combo the dews at Malwarebytes use, premium +  defender
Bet that's not what the developers at Avast use.
Do you really think that on the Avast support forum we really care what the dev. @ MB use?

Yepp i know several avast users that do ....

I don't, how can they be if they are still (as you say) Avast Users ???
They have more then one machine and test several AV combos

Lets break it down further as essentially you haven't responded to bob3160s point.

He is talking about Avast Developers, you are talking about Avast Users.

But then again you are on shaky ground, given that you no longer even use Avast :D

I take it that you using Defender and MB then ;)
If not then this is guesswork that Avast Users are using Defender and MB.

He said  ".....we really care what the dev. @ MB use? "  i assumed that meant the users of this forum, but ok if that was not it

Didn't mean to start any arguments with the article,  that I thought was related to the topic, but maybe I was wrong.    In any case still using Avast on household systems here,  yes I did switch for a bit just to test performance with Defender, and such, but in the end decided to stick with Avast Free,   Still a few household systems to get it back on yet though, but overall I think i'm happy and fine now.

I just gotta get myself to stop following other forums advice, and make sure I keep it installed, and keep system fully up to date

I would have to take your word for that, though I can't understand why they would bother.

Personally I don't really care what others use, that is their system and entirely their choice.  I have made mine.

I don't make my mind up based on what I read on other forums, etc.  I make my mind up on my own personal experience of having used avast free on all of my systems for over fifteen and a half years.

just a reminder @Bob3160  this forum section does have the name

Non-Avast security products
Discussion about competitor's products (ESET, Kaspersky, Norton etc..)

so somone did care/see the need for it

Considering that you don't use Avast, you may be one of those people who care.
I certainly don't and neither will most who use Avast.
Most of us are interested in additional protection that works with Avast which isn't the same
as an interest in a replacement for Avast.

Seems some people forget this is a non Avast security section.

There is nothing wrong with Defender, protection is excellent and less problematic concerning bug issues or deceptive advertising.

Running Malwarebytes in real time I feel is also no longer necessary these days with Defender or Avast, periodic scanning is fine, additional programs I do add to all systems is Adguard and AOMEI Backupper Standard no matter what AV is being used.

Sorry but to me it's a bit strange to see an Avast Überevangelist who doesn't use Avast, pushing alternative AV products.

Bob, where did I say I don't use Avast ::) it's always tested on one system here as well as many others so I have a fairly good judgement to base my statement on.

I must say though that if you have no wish to discuss AV's other than Avast then you should steer clear of topics that may broaden your limited outlook on security options.
