NEW Version: 18.7.2354
« on: October 09, 2018, 05:23:49 PM »
Good news everyone,
new stable version 18.7.2354 has just been released. This time it's more about fixes and internal improvements.

What's new:

- Passwords now synchronize even better

- Smart Scan now shows you the results of completed scans if you stop it before it’s finished

- Software Updater has moved in menu from Protection to Performance

Fixed:

- You can now minimize games without trouble after a few minutes of play

- No more duplicate dialogs when we detect a phishing scam

- We’ve taken care of those connection problems while activating subscriptions

- We’ve caught and fixed a bug messing with the Windows Security Center registration after a Windows Update

How to install:

1. Update from your existing Avast version via Settings -> Update -> Update program

2. Or you can download and install from here

Online installers (recommended):

http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe

http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_internet_security_setup.exe

Offline installers:

We hope you enjoy the new version!

Hello

"What's new:"

didn't you forget to mention that "Software Updater" has migrated from "Protection" to "Performance" in the IU?

Windows 7 User profile failed to load after this update.

I fixed it by restoring system in Safe Mode and when i logged into account then...Avast UI Failed to load...

Also for some reason Avast had added their extension to Firefox and created a new desktop icon.

This new update is causing my AvastSvc process to chug data within minutes of startup for about 10 minutes and recurs (which is a problem for an old computer like mine), rather than once per session if that (which is more reasonable). Even Repair doesn't work, while it did work last time AvastSvc went on the fritz for me.
(Also, Avast might want to update the Repair FAQ [https://support.avast.com/en-ca/article/Repair-Antivirus] to mention clicking the Uninstall button is how to reach Repair, rather than Change.)

OS: Windows 7 64-bit
RAM: 8 GB (AvastSvc chugs 13% data usage)
SUBSCRIPTION: Free

1:23 AM-ish EDIT: Son of a- AvastSvc is already using 13% CPU again, and it hasn't even been a full hour! Only a few minutes (2-3) this time, but still...
2:54 AM EDIT: Hasn't acted up again, but still something to look into.

10:33 PM October 10th EDIT: AvastSvc is still chugging on my data, multiple times in a single session. Once when starting my computer, then again an hour and a half later, and one other time all in one session. It acts up for 12 minutes at a time a little after initial start-up, then 2 minutes on subsequent times.
I initially installed the "Recommended installation", as well as when I changed Avast before trying Repair.
Disabling all shields while disconnected from the internet did not stop AvastSvc's activity, so the shields or online connections aren't the problem. It must be one of the other "Recommended" components that got borked in the update, causing AvastSvc to scan for 12 minutes for no reason.
I keep looking back at my harddrive space, and it seems to be very subtly shrinking over time. I was at 412 GB last night. I'm at 409 GB now. While I have saved files during today, I doubt they even reach 100 MB. Again, there is definitely something wrong with a component or two of the "Recommended" installation.
11:00 PM EDIT: I couldn't really wait any longer, since I didn't like the idea of dealing with this problem for an elongated period of time. On a hunch, I Changed the installation to a Custom one, omitting the following components: Software updater, Wi-fi Inspector, SafePrice, Passwords and Cleanup. And it seems to have worked for start-up- the early AvastSvc fits didn't happen. So one of those five components is the culprit.
I'll update again if something happens.

This new version has caused my Logitech Squeezeboxes to quit working. LMS (the sever software) uses ports 3483, 9000, 9001, 9090. I can't find anyway to allow specific ports to be open through Avast.

Which Avast version ??? Free - Paid - which version if paid ???
Sounds like a firewall problem. Avast Free and Pro do not have a firewall.

<Snip>

I updated from the UI and no problem and the Software Updater got moved to 'Performance' (like Asyn, I wondered why it would be considered a performance component).  Driver Updater is there also, hoping I might purchase it.

Why you wouldn't have it move on a clean install is strange unless the downloaded installation file wasn't the same build number (18.7.4041.0).  Presumably you also did a restart after your installation.

Mind you this is on my XP system so there could well differences as the new settings won't be applied to XP/Vista systems.

Strange David,
The Driver Updater is nowhere to be found on my install. :)

Yes, very.

There seems to be differences in different installations with the same supposed version number.  The driver Updater is something I would never install even if it were a free option.

I also thought paid options had a padlock on them as they are in the Protection section of the UI, but not so in the Performance section.
