Performance components haven't had padlocks on them ever(atleast i haven't seen them). I'm not sure why.

A theory could be because they are half free, driver updater shows outdated drivers and cleanup still shows problems. Mabey that's why they don't have padlocks.

Hmhh...

I see even more problems...although they might be because of of other problems...
(this update for me has been a train wreck...)
(That is sad because even last year everything went perfectly but this year has been much worse for Avast)

I have Avast Passwords extension on Firefox, Chrome and ASB but what i see in Avast UI...
(picture attached again)

It could be because my browser extension says it needs to be activated right now...

Hello,
I have 4 devices with avast (3AIS + 1 free) , SU move to performances on 3 (2AIS + 1 free (W10,W7,WXP)) but not on the 4 (W8.1) , SU is always on "Protection" even after reboots and repair.
Waiting sometime before clean install

unsecapp.exe is still being started up in the new build if behavior shield is installed, unsecapp.exe is not need for the behvior shild to work yet, it constantly starts it on boot, is this gone be fixed? or ignored  for years like the insanely slow GUI performance for avast had/has even when it on SSD it way worse on HDD granted over the years it got faster

Re: NEW Version: 18.7.2354 (Blocks Web Sites)
« Reply #20 on: October 11, 2018, 11:52:55 PM »
This new version appears to block Firefox "Nightly" (beta version) from most web sites on my bookmark list, such as CNN, ABC News, and many other commercial sites.

There is an error message, although it does not specifically mention Avast. It does, however, point to an anti-virus program possibly causing the problem. These sites all loaded properly before this latest upgrade (installed yesterday).

If I turn off Avast, the sites load as before. My apologies for not capturing the error message before posting this.

Using Win 10 Home, 64 bit, vers. 1803

Thanks
Dave

Hard to tell without the error message. Using Nightly builds or betas can always be problematic. :)

Hard to tell without the error message. Using Nightly builds or betas can always be problematic. :)

Here is the message shown when it's not possible to get to the web sites. This particular site was google.com.

Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead

Nightly detected a potential security threat and did not continue to www.google.com. If you visit this site, attackers could try to steal information like your passwords, emails, or credit card details.

What can you do about it?

www.google.com has a security policy called HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS), which means that Nightly can only connect to it securely. You can’t add an exception to visit this site.

The issue is most likely with the website, and there is nothing you can do to resolve it.

If you are on a corporate network or using anti-virus software, you can reach out to the support teams for assistance. You can also notify the website’s administrator about the problem.

So this is a block from Firefox not Avast.

This is definitely a (known) Nightly issue.  Mozilla (and Chrome for that matter) have now invalidated all Symantec certificates.

See: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=3041212 and https://www.ghacks.net/2018/08/24/expect-an-increase-in-browser-privacy-and-security-warnings/, for example.

Updated okay on both computers ... Noticed the UI opening even my XP PRO SP3 P4 is much faster. I only use Behavior, File, Web Shields and the Rescue Disk option when installing.  I personally have no need for the extra stuff.
Dell Dimension 8200 P4 1.8Ghz Windows XP PRO SP3
Avast Free Antivirus 18.8.2356
Toshiba Satellite C855-S5347 Celeron B830 1.8Ghz
Windows 10 Home 64 Bit Version 1909 Build 18363.900
Avast Free Antivirus 20.4.2410 Build 20.4.5312.578

It belongs in protection since an outdated program is a potential security risk.

also true, but avast , the main concerned part seems to have been doubtful for 2 days  ;)

If he thought (like us , users) that SU was a protection tool, he wouldn't have moved it into performance, and if it was a mistake, MartinZ wouldn't have edited the "what's new"
It is probably more our reactions (Asyn,DavidR,...) that have changed avast's mind ?  :)
