Windows 7 User profile failed to load after this update.

I fixed it by restoring system in Safe Mode and when i logged into account then...Avast UI Failed to load...

Also for some reason Avast had added their extension to Firefox and created a new desktop icon.

Decided to update to the latest version and got the very same issue upon restart - user profile failed to logon. Running Windows 7 SP1 x64 and it's to date with latest updates available from Windows Update. Went into safe mode and then recovered my profile through the Registry. Re-started and managed to log into my profile only to get the Avast UI failed to load error. Booted back into safe mode and uninstalled Avast 18.7.2354 using the Avast uninstaller. Re-booted and re-installed Avast 18.6.2349. Not happy to say the least. Prior to diving into the registry, I spent several hours backing up my data on my C drive in safe mode just in case I wasn't able to recover my user profile.

The Smart Scan issue could be either with the code in Avast or it could have something to do with the latest Windows 10 Upgrade .. Avast coders would need to check into it and decide how to fix it. This is just another reason I would want Microsoft to just allow Security Updates and let the end user decide if they need or want to Upgrade Windows 10 with so called "newer features" .. Once it working as I want it, leave it be.

I'm getting sick of Avast pestering me to buy VPN and now another pester to 'resolve PC problems' popped up after installing this update on my main PC.
I have already uninstalled the Software Updater, Wifi inspector, Safe Price extension, Data Shield, as I'm not interested in these and I use other software to 'fix PC problems'.
I'm also considering removing Avast Passwords too because it just isn't up to the quality and features of something like LastPass.
Avast - just concentrate on the core stuff done well and stop pestering us!

On the laptop issue "Avast is down" I've narrowed it to a WiFi scanning issue. There's something it doesn't like about the Gigabyte WiFi driver/hardware.
Strange how the scan keeps working and it's just the Avast interface that falls over, and recovers after a minute or so.

On a family member's computer, the automatic update of the Avast! program had corrupted their Windows profile.  After the Avast! program update screen popped up and computer restarted, a TEMP profile was loaded instead of their profile.

It is similar to what was described here and what others had described in the following thread:

The computer is running Windows 7 64-bit.

It took a while for me to figure out how to fix this problem because I never experienced this issue before.  I was glad I didn't have to setup everything again because that would've taken several hours.

I somewhat followed the steps mentioned here to correct the problem:

Basically:
1) Run regedit
2) Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
3) Go to the profile listing that is corrupted and delete the listing that doesn't have .bak (this is the TEMP profile) (you can back up the registry entry if you want)
4) Rename the profile with .bak by removing the .bak
5) Reboot
6) Go to the Users folder in Windows Explorer and delete the TEMP profile folder

The latest version of CCleaner installed Avast Free on my W10 desktop. Partway through the first autoscan computer BSOD and rebooted. At the start of the second autoscan computer immediately BSOD so I uninstalled Avast. I checked for appcrash data and the following came up:
1. ACDSEE Ultimate 2019.exe stopped working-heap corruption. 2. MOBILedit Framework.exe stopped working-Access Violation. 3. Smart Photo Editor.exe stopped working-Access Violation. 4. System Settings.exe stopped working-no installed components were found.  After uninstalling Avast computer working normally.

Hi folks, especially those suggesting this is a Window's problem.  Sorry, Avast, it's not Windows that broke, it's Avast that broke Windows.  Too many simultaneous instances. 

Summat's definitely "up" with the latest update.  I had the profile corruption problem and m/c was u/s.  Had to boot to safe mode, and do the registry hack as per method 1 at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/947215/you-receive-a-the-user-profile-service-failed-the-logon-error-message

Have managed to interrupt the Avast update on my 2nd machine, too it off, and won't be re-installing until the next proven-good Avast update is out.

Dunno if it's really OK now or not. Am sitting at 18.7.2354  build 18.7.4041.389 and working ok for now after the reg hack

Thanks for the advice. But perhaps it's not Avast.
The problem is related to the "service" or "process" TiWorker.exe (Windows Modules Installer). Or the one-name virus, although it does not show itself to be anything other than heating.
  When "End process" TiWorker.exe, it starts up later and heats up, loading the notebook in the background.
If you run Resource Monitor (perfmon / res), and TiWorker.exe "Suspend process" - then everything is OK, until restart my laptop. Although it does not solve this problem globally.
I would be glad for any advice.
