what is ashServ.exe doing...
« on: January 23, 2007, 03:19:39 AM »
when it's using so much memory? Just lately my computer has been lagging constantly and ashServe.exe is using between 30 to 70% cpu at times.

Has this always been happening, and is there any simple way to get aroudn this like rescheduling ashServe.exe to do its dirty work while I'm sleeping?
Thanks ahead of time,

Wade

We will need more information to be able to help you:
- Which OS are you using? Is it up to date?
- What avast! version and VPS file (virus database) number?
- Which actions have you taken to try solving the problem?
- Do you use a firewall? Which one?
- Do you have any other antivirus installed in your system?
- Any other security programs that could interfere?

Hi polonus,
I'm not sure what that article is saying. Should I update avast to fix a bug?

Tech,
I'm using XP home and it does its self update thing,
I have avast v4.7 file version: 0706-1
First I ended ashServ but now that I know its important I'm not sure what to do exept turn off avast while I'm doing cpu heavy tasks ie. recording and editing audio.
As far as I know I only have windows defender and I uninstalled norton and all that but I'm not totally sure...
What else could interfere, and what is it interfering with??

How did you uninstall norton. If it was just through add/remove, then it probably not enough.

See this post for removal tools

As oldman posted... you need to get rid of Norton...  ::)
Besides this, check if your avast version is 4.7.942  8)
