avast bug? trojan?
« on: July 19, 2006, 09:45:09 PM »
hello,

i am running a windows 2000 machine and i have installed avast in 2004 and its running excellent!
today, the machine isnt starting avast on startup and an error message appears:
"can't start C:/path/to/avast
access denied!"

i also cannot open the folder where it is in! everytime i click on it i receive the message above.

when i try to uninstall avast i receive the following message:
"error loading C:/path/to/avast/setiface.dll
access refused!"

the log of the firewall says, that ashWebSv.exe and ashMaiSv.exe are running. May be that the Main Programm (ashServ.exe?) can not be found? I can not go into the folder where these exe files are.
i can not install just a second time avast over the crashed version.

secure mode was negative.

so how could i run or uninstall avast?

win2k, SP 4, athlon 2000xp, 512MB ram, seagate 80GB
sygate firewall

thanks, frank

Offline igor

It's rather strange that it occurred just recently (as there wasn't any program update in the last days), but I suggest to try the latest beta, as announced here:

Hi visitor1234...

You may want to perform a couple of online scans to make sure that this "glitch" isn't an infection of some kind...

Let us know the results...

Best Regards...
