avast-4,7-Home just installed, no automatic AVS-update
« on: July 20, 2006, 03:43:39 PM »
hello,
after  successfully again installed avast 4,7-Home-Edition, I must state that an automatic AVS-update does not take place, although this attitude (configuration) is correct !  ??? :'(....... also the blue sound-PopUp, which  appeared always confirming the execution of an AVS update, does'nt  appeare more ....... and also the red error-PopUp.......   but the manual AVS update however takes place perfectly.  What can the cause be?  Thank you for appropriate references and help!

The Red pop-up is an error, what is the complete text of the error message ?
Is there anything in the avast log viewer about this ?
When does this happen, e.g. directly after boot, etc. when ?

There is another area in the Log Viewer Program Run or ProgrammLauf from your image, the Error, Warning and Notice being the three areas likely to produce/record these errors, there is probably no need to check there if the repair (see below) works.

One of the error codes in the attached .txt file Function setifaceUpdatePackages() has failed. is 000004C7 and this is a windows error 'The system cannot open the file.'

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.

"Complete Avast-Deinstallation included Registry"?
It will be good...
1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
2. Boot
3. Use Avast Uninstall for complete uninstallation (read http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_uninstall_util.html)
4. Boot
5. Install again.

hello DavidR,  hello Tech,

I'm at a loss as to what the problem might be, but did you check the other information I mentioned before you uninstalled.

Now that you have reinstalled please look at these areas I mentioned and see what is there about update errors/warnings. and also the windows XP event viewer, anti-virus section and let us know what you find, without information we are in the dark and just guessing as to a solution.

What are the settings for Update (basic) and Update (connections) ?
Do they match how you want to update (auto, etc.) and your Internet connection method (dial-up/always connected {broadband, etc.}) ?
Do you connect to the Internet through a Proxy ?

I assume that you are still able to do a manual update ?

Me too...
Maybe someone from Alwil team, maybe Kubejc, could help here  :'(

result: no automatic-update, no red and no blue popups !
Forget the panel, does avast update or not? Just the automatic update seems not to work or the manual does not work either?

in avast-log-Viewer remain all parts empty...
Set the slider to the most bottom option, save the settings and boot.
This will include all info in the categories 'above' the debug one.

25.07.06 18:29:15 4294598255 An error has occured while attempting to update. Please check the logs.
Is this the time you've logged on?

the manual-update works perfect !
So, did you change the 'logon' value for the update?
Just change (or add) AlwaysConnectedWaitSeconds value into the [InetWD] section of avast4.ini file.
You could set the number of seconds to wait before attempting to update. The default is 30 but it may not be enough in some DSL systems. In this case, you can try increasing this e.g. to 60 (1 minute). That should be enough. More details here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=1647

does'nt work...no result !
LET the slider at the bottom and continue testing the software...

Please see the attachments
Click on the buttom Proxy on the second window.
Switch the proxy settings from "Auto-detect" to "No proxy" (I'm assuming you're not connecting to the Internet via proxy).
