Avast Popup
« on: November 18, 2018, 10:21:28 AM »
1) Since the new update i keep getting this popup when i boot up my computer

2) I am a home user however i don't do ANY file/printer sharing and want the best security so should i choose "public" network

3) Could you add a "kill-switch" feature  which is very common on a lot of other VPNs to prevent leaks in your secure connection

Well, it depends what is running/connected on/to your network.

Public is for when you're NOT at home.

1) So if i choose HOME user will the issue go away

2) I was under the impression that PUBLIC network would be more secure/safer since it would disable file and printer sharing etc

NOTE:The Network profiles control the settings which determine how strictly Firewall protects your PC.

Private: a lower level of security suitable for when your PC is connected to a trusted network such as your home or work network. This profile enables better connectivity, and permits all communication within the network.

Public: a higher level of security suitable for when your PC is connected to a public network such as in a cafe or airport. Because public networks present greater security risks, no incoming communication is permitted when this profile is set.

If you want to automatically deny any incoming connections choose Public.  Otherwise, Private is sufficient for all Home networks.

Default setting for Avast Firewall is Public out of the box.  See attached below for firewall settings.

Could you link to a "kill-swtch" feature in a competing product so we can see what that is for (What it kills)?
Windows 10 Home 64-bit 22H2 Avast Premier Security version 24.1.6099 (build 24.1.88821.762)  UI version 1.0.797
 UI version 1.0.788.  Windows 11 Home 23H2 - Windows 11 Pro 23H2 Avast Premier Security version 24.2.6105 (build 24.1.8918.827) UI version 1.0.801

A "kill=switch" is then the VPN would "kill" your internet connection if something goes wrong with the VPN; this would prevent any potentially confidential data being leaked

Automatically secures untrusted networks - (which avast finally added)
DNS leak prevention - (which avast does not have)
Kill switch -  (which avast does not have)

Arvia Prime also has the "software Updater Pro which seems a LOT better than Avasts version because it covers 150 programs which is vastly more than Avast
