latest av update background processes
« on: November 20, 2018, 11:05:07 PM »
A few things happened last night:
  1. I popped a DVD into my laptop to watch a movie and I got a message from Avast about a virus (3 time in the last 2 weeks).  It repaired the problem and I was ok.  I went on to watch the first 5 minutes of the movie with no problem and then I thought I should run a full antivirus check so I opened Avast.
  2. Avast came up and said that it was in need of being updated, so I downloaded and updated to the latest version of the antivirus software.
  3. Afterwards I ran a full virus scan and fixed a few issues.  This took a few hours.
  4. When it was done I rebooted and then popped the DVD in again and it started without the virus message but the sound on the speakers now had an intermittent buzzing/static noise every few seconds.  I reinstalled the sound drivers.  No change.
  5.  Does the latest AV update install some sort of background process which periodically does something that interferes with the sound?
