« on: December 13, 2018, 04:52:59 PM »
i suspect that my Avast free antivrus isnt working properly and i want to repair it however after following the instructions on avast support after clicking "modify" instead of viewing the option to repair avast it opens avast intaller showing a page with check boxes that mark avast antivirus components a text line allowing to choose where avast antivirus will install into in the bottom of the page there is a green button with "Change" written on it

i dont understand does avast installer thinks avast antivirus isnt installed or what?

and no you cannot get a screenshot

EDIT:
system specs (Forgot to mention)

Windows 10 64 bit

CPU: Intel I5 6500

8GB ram

You might have the free version, but what version and build number ?

Use the about avast option in the tray icon, that will give that information.

If you go throw the actions again don't click Modify click Uninstall, there you will get other options, one being Repair.

Well I found this one, https://support.avast.com/en-gb/article/Repair-Antivirus and it shows using the Modify option, and the next screen is incorrect.  To get that screen the user would have to have selected Uninstall.

The 'uninstall' route just doesn't seem intuitive, most people might assume that you are going to be going down the uninstall route would result in an uninstall.

I'm sure some time ago, I used to use the Change when the two options in XP were Change/Uninstall and Repair was an option in the Change.

Me For all of the various windows options I have generally used the old school - Start > Control > (Add remove programs/Programs and Features, etc. etc.) to get to Avast Antivirus and Change/Modify.  But with later Avast version it, Repair, seemed to be moved across to Uninstall.

I believe people fear these Action words, like Uninstall because they think that this is exactly what is going to happen, not give you a slew of other options or to be able to back out.
