No Browser Extension Warning Override?
« on: December 31, 2018, 05:31:55 PM »
Is there no override function on the Avast browser extension?
If it says a site might harm the computer, and you want to visit it anyway, there seems to be no way of getting rid of the warning without going into the browser's extensions page and disabling the extension!
That's ridiculous, there should be some option to ignore the warning if you choose not to, or am I missing something?
 :)

Interesting, that "I trust this website" option did not appear in the window when I had it pop up!
Only the "get me out of here" option was there.
I'm using Firefox 52.9 ESR on Windows XP.
Could this be a Firefox ESR compatibility problem?
 :(

I run FF ESR as well and it works here. Might be related to XP.

I'd be surprised if anything in the operating system itself would affect it, but you never know!
Should the option to override appear on all blocked websites?
When I had Trend Internet Security installed I seem to remember that their browser security plugin gave you the option to override it on some sites, but not all.

Here you are!
I've now tested on Firefox 64 on Windows 10, and it's exactly the same, so not related to the OS or Firefox version.

18.4.124.
I only have the Avast browser add-on installed, not the main Avast program.

Well, that might be the reason, but I'm not sure. :-\

I doubt that, as the browser add-on is a standalone product as far as I can see, and there's nothing on its download page to say it only works properly if the main Avast program is installed.
In fact, one of its settings "Secure Browser" does say it only works if the main program is installed, but no mention on the others.

I'm wondering if your popup and mine are actually different things.
Mine says "This site could have harmed your computer", which is a bit strange because I thought it was supposed to warn you before any damage was done, not afterwards!  :D
I don't speak German, but I think yours is just a warning about phishing.
Maybe one can be overridden and not the other.

You need to have AOS installed, else it won't work.

It gives a 404 error for me as well, but it still popped up the warning, and yes, there is an option at the bottom to override it!
So, it does look as if some warnings can be overridden, and some can't, which I assume is by design.
I still got a 404 error even after overriding the warning, and now when I go to it, the warning does not come up any more.
Is that because I dismissed it?
If so, how can I reset it so the warning comes back?
