Avast Crash

latest version of Avast on WIn10 1607 build
Did an update and after the definition had complete the program wouldn't close.
Is it time for a new virus program?

Have you tried repair option?
NEW AVAST REPAIR:
Open avast GUI>Menu>Settings>Troubleshooting>Click on REPAIR APP>Follow instructions>Reboot.

while I do that is there a way to know what avast clean up means by programs running in the background
AVAST specifically calls it  "Windows Live" - MS has no clue what Avast is talking about. There no windows essential or windows live anywhere on the computer.

Windows Live is a discontinued brand-name for a set of web services and software products from Microsoft as part of its software plus services platform. It has been superseded by a product branded Office 365.

Okey.If you want you can repair avast by
Open avast GUI>Menu>Settings>Troubleshooting>Click on REPAIR APP>Follow instructions>Reboot.
If it is not solved the problem then uninstall it and reinstall and reboot pc/laptop.
