Virus scan stalling at 71%

Virus scan stalls at 71% Ran it for 50 minutes. Using Avast Premium. Toshiba laptop. Windows 10

Avast fixed itself. Next scan stalled at 71%. Next at 86%. Then the next time it completed the scan. So i will assume it was working on the problem in the back ground.
