Show icon in notification tray
« on: January 06, 2019, 07:24:30 PM »
Windows 8.1 & Avast Free. I have used Avast Free for many years but the icon has disappeared from my Notification Area. The program shows (twice) in my startup list (first and third) and on my desktop, but it doesn't show the GUI from the desktop icon so I can't start a scan or even be sure the program is running. In Task M=anager it shows as running but does not repond to Disable. The only think I can think is that I may have missed the annual renewal, but as I can't see the GUI I can't check. Reinstalling from a new download goes through the installation but not setup. Any ideas please?

I had the same issue on two machines.

After several reboots, I went into the "show hidden icons", section of the lower right tray, and pulled up "customize".

At the bottom I saw a defunct? (non editable) Avast icon and a new Avast icon on the top. I edited the new Avast icon to  "show icon and notifications" which fixed the issue.

On another machine, I had to drag the new icon from customize onto the tray and it has stayed there since.

Hope this helps... I see some one else had an icon issue.
