1. Some Errors in logs:

Storage query "INSERT INTO LocalObjects ( Type, Label, Comment, CreationTime, Creator) VALUES (1, '*Splash', 'created from asxAvast', 1154912169, 0);" failed. Error description: "unable to open database file [1]".
Storage query "INSERT INTO LocalProperties (Object, Property, Val) VALUES (1, 'DefTaskVersion', '1');" failed. Error description: "unable to open database file [14]".

and tons of others similar to this one...
The file is there: <avast>\Data\Avast4.db
No trouble with access permition, neither for System, neither for the Administrator group... neither for 'All users'...   ???
I can open the file in Notepad but I can't open it in MS Access... is it right?

Something makes me think the problem could be on accented characters on the installation path, or in the name of any previous task, or whatever  :(

2. Other problem... I cannot save the specific settings for on-demmand reports... I change, close the settings window, open it and nothing... everything is disabled...

Hi Tech,

Did you analyze the program with FileAlyzer, Process Explorer, and in combination with Resource Hacker. There you can get clues as where to look, also working it over with a hex editor might give you some clues. Don't you have a backup version before you made the adjustments or when the system was not showing up the apparent bug.
Well I think the team has set out on vacation. Or they are brooding on a solution to the problem, and you might get an answer soon.
I have never understood why avast has not got something similar like ZoneAlarm with its teamz, six experts that answer the questions that normal forum members cannot, they also have access to the bugs archives, and they have the free use of all the software beta programs, there are six of them, look up ZA teamz and you will find them, they found each other by invitation into this team. Here there could be a team*a operating.

Have a nice day, and I hope your problems will be solved soon,

polonus

I could do it... but, at least, I wish a guess from Alwil team... Don't you think it *should* be easier and faster?
Who must know how the product work?

Don't you have a backup version before you made the adjustments or when the system was not showing up the apparent bug.
I've tried to restore a backup of that particular file (the 'storage': avast4.mb).
I've tried to uninstall and install again...

Well I think the team has set out on vacation.

Alwil (at least not Pavel) has never proposed a group of the *old* guys here  :(

I hope your problems will be solved soon,

Hi Tech,
Sorry I didn't see this sooner.
Now this is definitely an avast! (Alwil) problem and it looks
like Alwil has taken another sabbatical.
Remember, that error is lurking in ever other Pro Version.
It's bad enough when it takes a long time to get an answer on a Home version.
Since it's free, it at least is understandable.
Not jumping all over a problem in a feature that exists only in the Pro version is
incomprehensible.
Come on Alwil, get on the ball and help one of your biggest supporters.

Surely this is not beyond the collective skills of the Alwil team ? Especially when it is for someone who provides so much help for other avast users ???

Hi Tech, I apologize for the delay in getting back to you. E.g. today, I was stuck literally for the whole day in the Grand Canyon  ;) :D

Anyway, to analyse the problem, I'd need you to tell me the exact step-by-step instructions on how to simulate the problem. I.e. step 1. would be to install avast 4.7.869 -- and what would be steps 2 and so on?

Thanks, and again, sorry for not getting back to you earlier.

Thanks
Vlk

Hi Tech, I apologize for the delay in getting back to you. E.g. today, I was stuck literally for the whole day in the Grand Canyon  ;) :D
Enjoy  :)

Anyway, to analyse the problem, I'd need you to tell me the exact step-by-step instructions on how to simulate the problem.
Environment: XP Pro SP2, Comodo Firewall, no other resident.

Yesterday:
1. Tried to repair the installation, no success.
2. Tried to change the file avast4.db for other that I have in other computer, working, allowing to change Tasks.
Disabled avast, overwrite the file, start avast.
The program even run due to configuration troubles.
    Boot. The same.
    Restore the original file.

Today:
1. Backup avast4.ini file.
Uninstalled avast 4.7.871 (updated this morning).
    Boot
2. Run aswclear.exe and boot.
3. Installed avast Pro (Portuguese language) (setuppropor.exe) 4.7.871 in a non-default folder with accented characters.
    Restore back the avast4.ini file.
    Boot
4. Merged the 'i' icon
5. Right click the icon to Register the Pro version. Add the registration number. Operation succeed.
The residents do not start, cannot start avast antivirus (skin)  :o

The Services were running...  ::) ???

After the disapointed experience that I think it won't occur with me (cannot install avast), I've done the way back:

1. Uninstalled avast 4.7.871. Boot
2. Run aswclear.exe and boot.
3. Installed avast Pro (Portuguese language) (setuppropor.exe) 4.7.871 in a non-default folder but without accented characters.
4. Tired of bootings, run ashdisp.exe just to add the registration number. Operation succeed for the Pro version.
5. Boot
6. Merged the 'i' icon, residents started, can add Tasks and manage things...

After booting twice, the Tasks are working.

I'll work with avast4.ini file now (trying to restore my original one).
Some 'gliches' on the Portuguese version are still there.

1. When opening Enhanced Interface for the first time, there are not the 'special' tasks displayed.
2. When checked the proper option, they're there. Without problem.
3. After editing or adding tasks, the panel does not refresh automatically  :'(
Errors on accented characters are still there.

Now adding the second language (English) and booting.

Two languages are not the problem... after booting, I can manage Tasks.
When still not configurated, the Task (Screen Saver) is displayed correctly.
After editing, the display problem (refresh) occurred once. But now, not even more  ::)
I'll test the avast4.ini file. Hope that the size of the stored Sessions are not the problem to the storage...

Everything is walking to a 'bug' when accented characters are used in avast path  :'( :P
Some upgrade has mess this as I'm sure this worked in the past...

No trouble after boot...
Well, take a look in accented characters in the path (I've use Antivírus with accent, the Portuguese version of Antivirus).
Hope this help Vlk  8)
