Is the OP a Windows 10 insider running the latest builds?
Perhaps there is a problem there ...

Windows 10 is a different kind of Windows, it's always evolving.
The A/V vendors will always be playing catch-up

Very true. If it is a preview build, there may well be a compatibility issue.

I've narrowed it down to being a problem with all my current computer builds that are ryzen or threadripper based. I switched to eset after it wasn't resolved in a timely manner... But a friend of mine is also having the same issue on his 2700X build, so I'm bringing it back up. Avast isn't working properly with ryzen builds after a while of use. On a fresh install I can run avast for about 3 to 4 days before it completely locks up and I cant be used. Sorry to sound like an ass, but I really dont have the time to fiddle with a non working security suite.
