UI Failed to load
« on: January 11, 2019, 08:39:34 AM »
Hey,

I am trying to deploy Avast Internet Security (latest version), I purchased a 1 year license. I downloaded the offline version, so I'm sure all the correct files are packed inside.

I try to start the AV but I get UI failed to load. I attempted a full reinstall (restored original OS snapshot and install).

I am running VirtualBox 6.0.0 with Windows 7 SP1, the only modifications which I have made to VirtualBox are a custom BIOS patch which simply loads a signed driver on my host machine but this is specifically for my own project requirements. However, the problem occurs due to a kernel level driver being unable to load.

What is the problem with the AV? I'm extremely disappointed since this type of problem only occurs with McAfee and Avast.

Well, what is this bullshit? I paid $110 for this broken garbage software. Why do I have to struggle so much just to use the software which I purchased? Its been 1 week, the software updated but the Avast Firewall is still failing to start, and the UI failed to load still appears. FProtect which only costs $29 installs without any problems, as well as the other 55 AV licenses which I purchased (except McAfee). Why does this expensive garbage software not work?

How did you remove all those other AV's before you installed Avast.
Follow this to make sure your problem isn't caused by leftovers from other AV programs.

Read the original post before giving me advice please. I said I started with a clean OS snapshot.

Also, I don't see the point of running the application as administrator if the application executes ShellExecuteExW with the RunAs property when launching. Bottom line is, I know what I'm doing, and have nearly a decade experience coding under the Windows OS. I'm telling you, I installed the AV and its not launching the Avast Firewall kernel driver. Is there a way to get debug logs so I can at least figure out whats blocking it? I already disabled 64-bit driver integrity checks and disabled DEP. I can't immediately see any other reason for it not to run.

Read my reply. They are instructions for a clean install of Avast not your OS.

Or rather, the installer has highestLevel set in its manifest file and the windows PE loader executes it with ShellExecuteW

After following your instruction, step by step:

So like, just issue me a refund I guess?

And yeah, it is pretty embarrassing that you have the nerve to put such a steep price tag on software that can't even start properly.

If it didn't work, Avast wouldn't have over 400,000,000 users.
